CAPITAL CITY

What is 'R.O.S.I.'?

'R.O.S.I.' stands for 'Reviving Our Sociological Imagination'. It expresses the belief that we all urgently need to cultivate what American sociologist C Wright Mills called 'a sociological imagination' – the ability to understand our lives in the wider context of our society and history so that we can begin to transform our lives, our society, our history.

The R.O.S.I. Website Project

Q) What would a website designed to empower people to cultivate their sociological imagination look like?

This is the question the R.O.S.I. Website Project asks. To help him try to answer it, the Project's leader, Dr Joel Lazarus (PaIS), invites Warwick University students from across the social sciences and humanities into a participatory and trans-disciplinary process of research and knowledge co-production.
The R.O.S.I. Website Project team will meet each week for two hours throughout the Spring Term.
Together we will actually produce the first version of the R.O.S.I. Website. Together we will make history!

The R.O.S.I. Website Project is a pilot for Joel's wider 'Capital City Project'. The R.O.S.I. website developed by Warwick students will serve as a model for the final version of the Capital City website that will accompany the Capital City TV drama series.

Since the focus of the drama series is on money, R.O.S.I. Website Project participants will also look at the nature of money to focus our analysis. But, fear not! Even if you think you know little about money, everything is in everything, and, for better or worse, the whole of humanity can be seen through the lens of money.

R.O.S.I. needs YOU!

It doesn't matter at all if you think you know nothing about money. First, you know more than you think. Second, it's all about a passion for social change, a love of ideas, and a profound faith in the intellectual power of your fellow human beings. If you have these qualities then I really want you to help me on this Project! I can't do it without you!

What will you gain from participating?

Here's what students participating in the R.O.S.I. Website Project will gain:

  • A genuine opportunity to co-produce groundbreaking, original social scientific knowledge and research;
  • A chance to consolidate knowledge of your own discipline while learning from students from many other academic backgrounds;
  • The opportunity to learn and develop filmmaking and website development skills;
  • The chance to enhance your CV and develop communication and teamwork skills;
  • ...all while contributing to a project that can change the world!
